Read MoreIt can be very costly for small businesses to have to provide the minimum of 300 square feet of land that will park a car for every employee and customer. As each parking space consumes this amount of space could take up a lot of land which unfortunately, is no longer made.
Most companies now think up ways to lower their parking costs as each employee must shell out a certain amount every month to guarantee their parking space. This is fine on the short term, but it can be quite disconcerting on the long term, especially for those employees who have to watch every single penny that comes out of their pockets.
Some companies have thought up a money saving scheme like a pickup service for their employees who need live in a particular area and need to drive over to work. This is much similar to the airport vans picking up the passengers from their homes to get them in time of their flights. With this pickup service, employees living in a general area can sign up for pick up every morning thus ensuring their arrival and departure to and from the office at the appointed time as well as saving money. The employees could pay for the service monthly.
Another idea is the old car pool system where employees who live in a general area take turns driving and picking up co-workers. The usual payment for the fuel cost of the day applies. This next approach is a little drastic, but some small businesses decided to relocate their offices to a mall area which can provide free parking for both employees and customers. The mall parking lot is secured with security guards and cameras, they are also well lit during night time.
Another approach would be to talk to the management of the parking lot services. There are a lot of parking lot businesses like newark airport parking which only be too willing to offer up discounts as long as the company promises to occupy a certain number of spaces and pay for it whether they are used or not. A discussion on the terms of the discounted price and a contract drawn up for occupation for at least two years should perk up their interests. What parking service would not jump at the chance that they would be getting paid for a space whether or not it is used?
Then again there is another idea which may actually be beneficial for both the parking lot business and the company. The company could offer to pay for the instalment of security cameras in exchange for the parking of their employees. There are some parking lot services which cannot yet afford the installation of the security cameras. If they accept the installation by the hiring company, not only will the lot improve on its services, but they are guaranteed customers. There are so many ways to reduce the parking costs, it just takes a little bit of imagination on the part of the employees and the administration.
